Thank you for supporting La Caravana Escuela and its life-changing programs. To facilitate contributions by U.S. donors, we have created a “friends of La Caravana Escuela” entity. Donations made to this entity all support the work of the program in Venezuela
The U.S. La Caravana Escuela entity, created to support the work in Venezuela, is a California corporation led by a three-person Board of Directors. It collaborates with the Venezuelan team to develop annual plans and budgets, to refine community outreach and training programs, and to assure timely and accurate reporting of human impacts and financial results. All funds disbursed to Venezuela are in accord with a Board-approved budget with the U.S. entity monitoring use of funds. Directors and officers are:
Alberto Arvelo, Chairman – A Venezuelan living in California, Mr. Arvelo is an internationally recognized documentary filmmaker with deep and diverse connections to the arts.
Stephen Yusko, Secretary – Mr. Yusko is a practicing blacksmith whose work is in private collections and museums throughout the United States. He is a frequent instructor at premier craft schools including Penland School of Crafts, Haystack School of Crafts and has served on the Boards of some of these institutions.
Larry Gilson, Treasurer – Following a career in business and government that included roles on the founding team of Common Cause and on the White House staff of President Carter, Mr. Gilson founded and leads Focusing Philanthropy. As a free resource to individual donors and small foundations, FP identifies, diligences, monitors and reports on compelling nonprofits delivering life-changing impacts in the U.S. and throughout the developing world.
Gabriela Camejo, Chief Operating Officer – Ms. Camejo is responsible for the receipt, processing and disbursement of donations and for the associated reporting. She is a Venezuelan film producer living in San Marino, California.
Cathy Pedersen, Assistant Treasurer – Following a career in the finance group of Paramount Studios, Cathy has, for the past 10 years been the senior accounting, donation processing, and administrative person at Focusing Philanthropy.
